There is officially no hope for us as a nation

You're probably right about the lack of hope. After all, we recently impeached a president for lying to us about blowjobs, and a scant few years later we reelected a president who had lied to us about the reasons for going to war. But, however little hope there is now, this is NOT a particularly recent phenomenon. Recall this story from our youth ...

You and I had a bet as to whether Andrea Sloan, a STAR of the RELee HS Debate team, would know who Teddy Kennedy was. My memory is not what it once was -- I think I bet that she would NOT know (but, given the different outlooks that you and I routinely have, it would make more sense for the bet to have been the other way around). In any event, I'm pretty sure that the outcome was a tie. We had decided ahead of time to push if Andrea answered that Teddy Kennedy was a president, and indeed that was her guess.

The more things change ...

Gawd! As the kid who was always waving her hand in the air in school to answer the teacher's question, this video is making me crazy! Yeah, I get it. We're horrifingly stupid. Go, team USA.

But, I have to wonder: Really, how much better would the averagest, stupidest, least cosmopolitan Brit do if asked similar questions?

very belatedly - this is a spoof from an Australian comedy show.

But I don't doubt that we're not much better, some days
